Shop Til You Drop
Travel Inspiration
Don’t ever let anyone tell you that shopping isn’t a legitimate hobby. There are plenty of communities with downtown business districts, malls and shops to peruse in search of that special something. So, put on your shopping shoes and get out there.
The oldest flea market in the Midwest, Swap O Rama has several locations including the Tri-State/Alsip location, which welcomes shoppers each week on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays year-round for their indoor/outdoor market. They also have a market opened once a month from May-October in Peotone.
Downtown Business Districts
Don’t you just love strolling down a traditional main street or town square to do some shopping? You’ll find a number of cute, independently owned, small businesses in several communities, including Frankfort, Blue Island, Homewood, Lansing and Crete.
This popular artisan market is a fun and diverse gathering of Midwest makers, held at the Historic Ford Hangar at the Lansing Municipal Airport in the spring and fall and other Chicago Southland locations.
Farmers Markets
Throughout the Chicago Southland, you’ll find Farmers Markets happening during the spring, summer and fall offering the freshest of produce - and some also offer entertainment, craft vendors, food trucks and other activities. An indoor winter market also takes place in Homewood from January through April.
Malls
If you like to spend a day at the mall, pay a visit to Chicago Ridge Mall, Orland Square Mall or River Oaks Mall for a wide variety of shops and restaurants.
Check out the gift shop for some unique pieces by local artists and explore the two stories of gallery space in this three-story historical landmark building.
Lotton Art Glass Gallery & Studios
This unique studio in Crete began in 1970 and founder Charles Lotton still can be seen creating works of hand-blown glass art in his workshop along with additional artists - stunning pieces that include vases, bowls, sculptures, lamps and more. The gallery and studio are open Monday-Friday where you can watch the action and shop in the gallery.
Sports Shops
Buy a bat like the ones the pros use at the Homewood Bat Co., purchase shooting sport and firearm supplies or do some target practice at Eagle Sports Range or pick out some custom attire at Lansing Sport Shop.
